Dammy Twitch, born Apampa Owolabi Oluwadamilola in Ibadan, Nigeria, began his creative journey in 2013 as a teenage photographer shooting events, weddings, and even funerals. It wasn’t glamorous, but it sharpened his eye for storytelling and composition.
While studying Economics at Redeemer’s University, he taught himself video editing using his phone and school computers. This early experimentation laid the foundation for his transition into filmmaking.
His first major turning point came when he interned under Director Q, one of Nigeria’s respected video directors. By 2017, he officially launched his directing career, around the same year he completed his NYSC program.
The Breakthrough That Changed Everything
Dammy Twitch’s life changed with a single DM from Davido’s management. They invited him to shoot behind-the-scenes content at the Lagos City Marathon. His work impressed the team so much that he was invited to tour 30 countries with Davido, capturing performances and creating visuals that elevated the superstar’s brand.
This exposure placed him on the radar of the entire Afrobeats industry.
