Share and believe in the positive, innovative inventive diverse compliments of the AfroGlobal communities worldwide. These pioneers are not often known or seen. I am conscious that I am combatting all of that, as well as offering a bit of uplift for anyone who comes across it.

We here at Your magazine want to feature you! and your impressive work, as it’s been repeatedly shown that the mainstream media is biased towards people of colour and this is very prevalent. With the AfroGlobal and ethnic minorities making up more than 20% of western countries, the question that comes to mind is will we continue to let damaging stereotypes define us?

The answer is a resounding NO.

The media bias reflects the bias that is intrinsic in Western culture and society. People of colour are often seen as threats or exceptions, but not commonly enough as typical human beings.

More often than not, you’ll see adjectives or nouns that refer to someone’s ethnicity or skin colour rather than their name or age, or you will see images that are negative or intense instead of happy or light.

The damage that these micro de- humanisations can do, reinforces prejudices about people of colour, as well as teaching incorrect narratives which further perpetuates them.

We can and should counter that through our own catalogue and definitions of our contributions to society at large.
