Give yourself an annual review. Write down the most important things that happened this year good or bad, and what you learnt, what you are grateful for and what you need to change or improve. Everything that comes in your minds…

Looking forward

What do you want to learn in the coming year? Based on what you learned by looking backward, how will you let go of the things that you don’t want anymore in your life? What are your major goals for next year?


Your annual self-analysis should be made at the end of each year, so you can include in your New Year’s Resolutions any improvements, which the analysis indicates should be made. Take this inventory, by asking yourself the following questions:

These 10 questions are great ways to jumpstart self-reflection:

  • Am I using my time wisely?
  • Am I taking anything for granted?
  • Am I employing a healthy perspective?
  • Am I living true to myself?
  • Am I waking up in the morning ready to take on the day?
  • Am I thinking negative thoughts before I fall asleep?
  • Am I putting enough effort into my relationships?
  • Am I taking care of myself physically?
  • Am I letting matters that are out of my control stress me out?
  • Am I achieving the goals that I’ve set for myself?

The following questions are questions you can ask yourself every day, to get to know yourself better:

  1. Who am I, really?
  2. What worries me most about the future?
  3. What am I really scared of?
  4. Am I holding on to something I need to let go of?
  5. Have I done anything lately that’s worth remembering?
  6. Have I made someone smile today?
  7. What have I given up on?
  8. When did I last push the boundaries of my comfort zone?
  9. What small act of kindness was I once shown that I will never forget?
  10. What do I need to change about myself?
  11. Is it more important to love or be loved?
  12. How many of my friends would I trust with my life?
  13. Who has had the greatest impact on my life?
  14. What do I want most in life?
  15. Which is worse: failing or never trying?
  16. What’s the one thing I’d like others to remember about me at the end of my life?
  17. Does it really matter what others think about me?
  18. Have I improved my personality, and if so, in what ways?
  19. Have I dissipated any of my energy through lack of concentration or effort?
  20. Have I been open-minded and tolerant in connection with all subjects?
  21. Have I followed the habit of budgeting my time, my expenses, and my income, and have I been conservative in these budgets?
  22. How may I re-budget my time, and change my habits so I will be more efficient during the coming year?



The main point of such an introspection, is to change your behaviour and your actions. You have to do things differently. As Richard Moran said, “You can’t get different results by doing things the same way”.

The beautiful thing about life is that you can always change, grow, and get better. You are not defined by your past and mistakes made.

So try, fail, learn, readjust, and try again until you succeed. Someday, you will meet the happiest version of yourself and it will be worth it.
