I had the pleasure of interviewing Afroglobal food entrepreneur Aisha Jade, who has herself interviewed Levi Roots and many other greats on her YouTube platform called Di Caripean Foodie . She is the talented founder of the black owned brand Carisips Drinks. I have tried all three of the lovely drinks on offer. Currently the drinks available are Ginger Zing (500ml), Sorrel Spice (500ml) and Zesty Tamarind cordial (250ml). I wanted to try something new and tasty and these drinks did not disappoint. I loved all the drinks that I tried but my favourite is Sorrel Spice.

The Honey Ginger drink is very refreshing, the sweetness of the honey infused with the ginger is magnificent. I loved the nice linger of the ginger in my throat. In regard to the Zesty Tamarind cordial drink, I could really taste the nectar and the tamarind come through. It was not too sweet which is good and it was very tasty and tangy. The Sorrel Spice drink has an amazing taste. I loved the elderberry and nectar flavours; it was very refreshing with its fresh fruity taste. All the drinks brought me back to relaxing in Jamaica by the beach with a drink in my hand and here comes the interview.

Hi Aisha Jade, thank you for taking the time to talk to Your Magazine, about your non-alcoholic and healthy drinks called Carisips Drinks. What inspired you to make these drinks?

Aisha,” I was a food blogger for around a year and a half and visited different cities internationally to explore different types of food, mainly being Caribbean. My discovery of all these new foods and flavours prompted me to start making the food and drinks that I was coming across. An idea that I had to start a supper club was unattainable at the time, so I decided that I was going to start selling the drinks that I had been making. I then discovered that the flavours of my drinks were staples in various cultures across the world. I find it beautiful how people from different backgrounds connect to my products and that my products bring them to a happy place.”

Which drink is your best seller?

Aisha, “Ginger Zing. Customers love the sharp and sweet balance.”

What are the health benefits of drinking Carisips Drinks?

Aisha, “Each product consists of a range of different spices which have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. They also have digestive properties so you should begin to feel the stomach warm, whilst drinking. Furthermore, the main flavours of Sorrel Spice are hibiscus and elderberry which are known for boosting the immune system. Tamarind is known for its digestive qualities and honey and ginger combined are an all-round, old school remedy for cold, flu and general health. You can heat the drinks in a saucepan for a couple of minutes to make a soothing tea.”

Please tell me about your new drink Zesty Tamarind Cordial and the effects that Covid-19 had on its production?

Aisha, “… this downtime has allowed me to keep working on the recipe and understand how to balance out the flavours, to create a stand out product that can be used for a variety of things like ice creams and pastries as well as drinks.”

Also for Christmas Carisips Drinks has a lovely Xmas Foodie gift set, which has 1x Sorrel Spice and 1x Ginger Zing (500ml) 1x Zesty Tamarind Cordial (250ml) and delicious Tamarind Truffles which are dark and milk chocolate truffles, with a gooey tamarind and salted caramel centre and costs £37.
