Over 11 million viewers watched the long-anticipated interview, with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on Monday night at 9pm on ITV. The interview had so much hype around it and it has caused a big stir, especially with Daytime and Lunchtime TV Presenters, so much so that after it aired the rippling effects have been greatly felt.

The nothing off limits interview, did not disappoint in exploring the possible reasons behind why Meghan and Prince Harry stepped down from their Royal duties. Even some shocking alleged revelations about concerns over their son Archie’s skin tone, before he was born was a big topic of discussion.

Meghan told Oprah that there were “… concerns and conversations about how dark his skin was going to be.”

As the interview aired in the US the day before, some journalists had seen some of the footage prior to it being aired in the UK. In relation to Archie’s possible skin colour, Loose Women panellist Jane Moore said, “… I think that everyone watching has somebody from the older generation that sometimes says something, that is very inappropriate or maybe casually racist and not necessarily meaning it to be.”

In response to Jane’s comment, Loose Women panellist Charlene White said, “… But that is not what Meghan is saying, she said that there were concerns about the colour of their son’s skin so there is a difference.”

Charlene also went on to say that, “we need to be honest about underlying racism which exists in this country.”

Prince Harry told his wife that someone in the Royal family had expressed their concerns about how dark Archie was going to be, when he was born. Prince Harry later revealed away from the interview, that it was not The Queen or Prince Philip who had made the racial comment. So, this has opened up the possibilities of who else could have made such a disparaging statement in the Royal family.

Also, the normally very vocal Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain stormed off the set yesterday morning when the debate that he had with his colleague Alex Beresford, was getting too heated.

Alex Beresford said, “I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle you have made it clear a number of times on this programme … she cut you off, she is entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think that she has but yet you continue to trash her.”

Then Piers said, “Ok I am done with this” and walked off the live set.  Susannah Reid had to calm things down and go to an impromptu break.

Due to the events that took place on Good morning Britain, Ofcom have issued a statement saying: “We have launched an investigation into Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain under our harm and offence rules.” This was a result of receiving over 41,000 complaints.

Activist, Lawyer and Author Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu also clashed with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain on Monday when she called him a “liar and a disgrace” after hearing Piers talking about the interview with Meghan and Harry.

Yesterday Dr Shola posted on her twitter account that, “A Black woman should replace Piers Morgan as presenter on Good Morning Britain.” This statement was also posted on Dr Shola’s LinkedIn account and it has had a lot of interest.

One follower of Dr Shola said, “What a strange statement. Surely it should be based on suitability for the role.”

Whilst another follower said, “Wouldn’t it be great if Alex Beresford replaced him…”

There are some mixed emotions on the suitability of Piers Morgan’s replacement. Whoever replaces Piers should be suitable for the role first and foremost, a black woman would be a welcomed change but if it wasn’t a black woman, as long as the person was suitable I am sure that the British public would be happy.

Also, yesterday a Palace statement which was released on behalf of the Queen regarding the racist claims by Meghan and Harry said that the whole family is “saddened”  about how the Royal couple have been feeling, over the last few years and that this matter will be dealt with “privately” within the Royal family.

Prince Harry was right when he said on the Oprah interview, that it would take some time for the “bonds” to be repaired in the Royal Family and subsequently in the wider society, after such damning alleged revelations.
